Snow in the Scenic City: Chattanooga’s Rare Winter Wonderland
January 2025
When snow hits Chattanooga, everything slows—and transforms.
On a quiet morning in January 2025, the Scenic City woke up to a rare dusting of snow. Streets were still. Familiar landmarks looked brand new. And for a brief moment, it felt like the whole city hit pause.
I grabbed my camera and headed out before the footprints, salt, and tire tracks set in. These are the moments I love most as a photographer: when the city shifts into something surreal and still.
From the Walnut Street Bridge covered in white, to snow-laced trees lining the Riverwalk, to the peaceful hush over downtown, each frame told a story of a city in unexpected stillness.
Waffle House was Still Open!
Of course, I had to check in on a true Southern staple—my local Waffle House, which looked almost surreal under a layer of snow. It’s not every day you see that bright yellow sign against a backdrop of white.
Walnut Street Bridge
The Walnut Street Bridge was especially striking— its iconic blue trusses dusted with snow, stretching silently over the Tennessee River. Usually full of walkers and bikers, that morning it was nearly empty at first, creating a quiet, cinematic scene that made one of Chattanooga’s most familiar landmarks feel entirely new. After the snow storm had slowed down, people were out enjoying the beautiful snow covered Bridge!
Back Home - Snow Covered Trees!
Back at home, I took a moment to wander my own street. The neighborhood felt like a storybook—each tree branch weighed down by snowflakes, it was peaceful and I had a great Snow Day!
